Practices Group Formed
When an industrial, agricultural, or commercial electric motor fails and is sent out to be rewound, does it lose efficiency?
What is the difference between a “bad” motor service center, a simply “good enough” service center and an “excellent” one?
Newly formed, the Green Motors Practices Group is a non-profit organization that helps answer these questions and more. The Green Motors Practices Group identifies and promotes higher-performing motor service centers that are committed to producing rewinds which consistently retain or improve reliability and efficiency in motor-driven systems. Numerous Northwest motor service centers, with support from the Industrial Efficiency Alliance, created this new Group. The Green Motors Practices Group is focused on promoting energy efficient systems – not just individual motors – while sustaining efficiency. The Group doesn't consider the motor system to be just the starter, motor, and driven equipment but expands that scope from the facility's service entrance extending to the final process output. In order for a service center to become part of the Green Motors Practices Group, it must make a commitment to abide by a set of standards to help ensure differentiation from the “good enough” competition. Prospective service center’s executive manager and shop supervisor sign an agreement, which makes them accountable to complete these high-level service goals and tasks. Utilities are encouraged to become involved in the Green Motors Practices Group. To join or to request more information, please visit www.greenmotors.org.
